Dear Parents/Carers

Greek Day

We are planning to round off our Ancient Greece topic with a Greek Day on Thursday 17 February, just before half term.  We are writing to give you advance warning that a sheet will be needed to make a costume, and the very keen may want to think ahead to sandals, hair curling and jewellery – applauded but by no means compulsory.

During the morning we will be operating a carousel of fun activities that will allow us to further explore the lifestyle of the Ancient Greeks.  Activities will include Greek food tasting, Green urn decoration, a mini Olympics and more. In order to make the day a true success we will need some help from a few amazing parents who are willing to give up some of their time to work with small groups – this could be helping a leader in a pre-planned activity or even running your own activity if you have any interesting ideas! Any contributions of Greek foods for us to taste would also be very much appreciated.

As another exciting twist to the day, we would like to invite all parents and carers to come in to school at 2.45pm to experience the Ancient Beast Trail with their child/children.  This will consist of lots of the art and design that we have been doing about ancient beasts over the duration of the topic – including your child’s topic homework so please ensure it has been handed in by Monday 14th February!  There will also be an opportunity for you to see a range of examples of fantastic work that has been produced during the topic, so please do come along and celebrate it with us!

Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if you can help with the day. All parents attending the afternoon Beast Trail will be greeted by class representatives at the Office at 2.45pm.

Yours faithfully,

Emma Phillips

Dear Parents/Carers

Millennium Library and the Puppet Theatre

On Monday 14th February 2011, Year 4/5 will be going on an exciting outing to the Millennium Library and the Puppet Theatre in the city centre.  We are currently learning about myths and legends and have studied many mythological and legendary creatures. Therefore, we feel it would be an appropriate and exciting end to the topic to venture in to the city and take part in the Norwich Dragon Festival. In the morning we will be taking part in a series of educational activities in the library, including learning about the history behind dragons in Norwich.  In the afternoon the children will have an opportunity to create their own dragon puppet under the expert guidance of the Puppet Theatre staff. Parents are warmly encouraged to join us if available to help, as we will need at least 5 extra adults to satisfy the necessary ratio of adults to children.  If you are able to help, please indicate on the attached slip.

In order to cover the cost of the visit, parents are asked to make a voluntary contribution of £9.50.  If you would like your child to take part please complete and return the slip below no later than Friday 11th February 2011.  The coach will leave promptly at 9.15am in order to reach the library in time for our first appointment so please ensure that your child arrives in school for 8.50am to be registered, grouped and boarded.  Children will arrive back at school in time for 3.15pm to be collected as normal.  The children will need to wear comfortable shoes and a warm coat and carry a packed lunch (no fizzy drinks or glass bottles please).

Yours faithfully,

Emma Phillips
