Acting Head Teacher Mr J Johns

Dear Parents/Carers

Glenn Murphy at Inspire – Thursday 7th October 2010

Following on from our fantastic trips to Inspire Discovery Centre and participation in the Lord Mayor’s Procession two years ago we were asked to become one of only three buddy schools for the centre.  As a buddy school we are included in a number of exciting and exclusive opportunities.  We have been invited to attend an afternoon of science to celebrate the launch of one of Inspire’s patrons, Glenn Murphy, books.  Mr Murphy is a renowned children’s science author (of publications such as,Why is Snot Green? and Stuff That Scares Your Pants Off along with the Science Sorted series).  He specializes in science content targeted at children and will be giving a talk to school children explaining some of the great mysteries of the science world such as how loud can you actually burp? and allowing children to ask him some of their questions about science.

The event starts at 1.30, but we have been invited to attend during lunch so that we can make the most of the afternoon, therefore your child will need to bring a packed lunch on this day.   The talk will finish at 2.15. After the talk there will be the chance to have books signed by Glenn and meet the author and also take part in free Inspire workshops as the session winds to a close.  We will be leaving Inspire at 3.30pm and aim to return to school shortly after 4pm.

We will require some parental help for this trip to go ahead.  If you are able to help, please indicate on the reply slip below.

The shop will be open as usual and Glenn’s books will be on sale for any interested parties (they are usually about £5.99 each).  We are really excited about this event.  There will be no charge for entry to this event, but we ask for a contribution of £2.70 to help cover the cost of transport to/from the venue.

Please complete, sign and return the slip below to indicate that your child has permission to join us for the afternoon. Any children who are not able to come will spend the afternoon in school as usual.

Yours faithfully,

DAVID ARTHUR
