Acting Head Teacher Mr J Johns

YEAR 3/4 MEETING WITH PARENTS

School uniform

  • Please name all items including sports and swimming kit.
  • Sports kit should consist of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.  In the winter tracksuit bottoms and a jumper can be worn over the top for outside games lessons.  We suggest that kits come to school on Mondays and go home on Fridays in case of any unexpected PE lessons.
  • All children will need a change of shoes to enable them to make the most of the school grounds at break and lunchtimes.
  • They will also need a coat at school even if they come in a car!  Please make sure names are in these too.
  • Jewellery:  Only watches and stud earrings are permitted.  These however should not be worn for games or swimming times.  As teachers are not permitted to take your child’s earrings off or help your children put them back on, it is best that they are not worn on these days.

Homework

  • Literacy homework is given on a Monday to be returned by Thursday. This will consist of ten spellings on a sheet which can be kept at home for practising for a test on Friday.  The children in Year 3 are to select five spellings from the list and use them in sentences.  Year 4 children are to use all ten spellings from the list and create sentences using them.
  • Maths homework will be given every Thursday to be returned to school the following Monday.  This will normally be in the form of an activity sheet. You are very welcome to help your child with their homework and write how much support was needed from you on the work.
  • We expect the children to be reading daily and this can be recorded in their reading record books.  It doesn’t have to be long.  Little and often is a great way to learn!
  • It would also be of great help to the children to practise their times tables as much as possible too. Year four are expected to know all their tables to the tenth multiple of ten by the end of the year.

We wish to encourage the children’s independence and so would encourage you to leave them at the playground so that they enter the school building themselves and put away their own things.

Communications

If you wish to see us with any concerns or queries, the best time is after school (mornings are always very busy), or you can phone to make an appointment via the office.

Helping At School

Help is always welcomed.  If you feel that you could spare a few regular hours in your week to help with swimming, reading or have a particular skill that you can contribute, we’d love to hear from you.  You will need a CRB check but this can be organised by the office staff.

We hope you were able to see us on Monday, but if you couldn’t make it, we hope that this letter will help you to have a clearer understanding of the year ahead.  If you were able to come it might help to remind you of al the pints we discussed.

Yours faithfully,

J BAKER
